A little about me...
I will be spending a lot of time with your child this year, and I feel that you should know at least a little about me. I am originally from Scotland. I grew up and attended school in and around Edinburgh through high school, with a brief stint in Hong Kong after a family move there. I then attended the University of Westminster, London, where I completed a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Russian. During a year abroad in St. Petersburg, Russia, I met my wife, Brittany (who, as you may know, is now a third grade teacher at NES!). I moved to the US in 1996, and went back to school at UNH where I received a Masters Degree in Elementary Education in 2001.
This is my 12th year at NES. I’ve taught third, fourth, and fifth grade here, and I have worked with elementary, middle, high school, and adult students in various capacities over the years. For three summers, I worked as an advisor for an experiential education course for beginning teachers at UNH.
I love to run, play soccer (but I call it football), read, and above all play the guitar. I have dabbled with a little acting... Britt and I have a four-year-old daughter, Fiona, and a seven-year-old son, Sean. We live in Eliot, Maine, and put up with the commute because we love our town! In Winter, however, we can sometimes be heard whining about the roads…
I am excited to be in fourth grade again this year, working with a wonderful, multi-talented fourth grade team! Students this age have an infectious love of learning, a burgeoning sense of independence, and an openness to new experiences and ideas that I continue to find challenging and rewarding. I strive to be a caring, respectful, and effective teacher who sees every student as a complex individual, and I work diligently to move them forward. I constantly look for opportunities to connect the classroom learning that we do, to a broader and more meaningful real-world context. I’m looking forward to a great year.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns at any time, please feel free to contact me at your convenience – easily done through the CONTACT page on the website. Thank you for your support and interest in your child’s education – it makes all the difference.
Sincerely,
David Williams
